EVALUATION QUESTION 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

My product attracts my audience through the ambiguity of the scene. It is open to interpretation on who each character is and what the outcome will be, and this attracts an audience as it creates tension and narrative enigma, as well as being unknown and on the edge of their seats.
I chose my actors carefully in order to create the right tension and suspense within the film, and therefore attract my audience. Jodie was chosen to play the antagonist as she had the facial features I pictured my character to have, she also had the characteristics and ability to pull off a scary/off putting character which is what I needed in my thriller. Amy was chosen to portray the police women as not only is she a drama student and has excellent acting abilities, she can also change her characteristics to fit into any role and portraying this character was not a challenge for her.
Many thrillers have age restrictions, this being age 15 and 18 as the content can become extremely psychological to warrent an 18 cetificate. This limits my audience to my thriller as people uhder the age restriction given would not be able to view it legally. I think my thriller is a 15, as it does contain themes related to real life events, however is not psychologically harming enough to require an 18 certificate.
To ensure my audience would enjoy my thriller, I did some secondary research into thriller viewings, I evaluated my feedback and found that younger adults are the most prominant figure that watch the thriller genre. This is because they enjoy the suspense and like the build up of narrative enigma, therefore my thriller is appealing to this age range, and would attract them in the fact it is a new, up to date thriller with new aspiring actors in it.

EVALUATION QUESTION 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Thrillers appeal to both male and female audiences and a variety of social classes conventionally through the use of relatable characters and themes within the film.
 The ideal audience for my media product was to attract people in the age range of 15-25 (young adults) this is because it is a thriller, and would not have an audience of younger children, and would not be watched by people over the age of 40 as it is not of a high standard to make a block buster movie
My audience would be people interested in the thriller genre, and who like to be intrigued and drawn in by the narrative enigma that is built up in the first 3 minutes. Although some films will appeal to niche audiences, I believe that my thriller will appeal to a wide audience of thriller watchers.  My target audience would be interested in technology and modern life, as well as crime aspects, as this links to my thriller which conventionally is influenced by potential real life events

Thrillers usually have an age restriction on movies, this is for viewers over 15 and in some cases 18. This could limit the audience of my thriller. I think my thriller is a 15 age rating, meaning people only 15 and over would be able to view my thriller as the content of the thriller is not suitable for people younger than this age ticket.

EVALUATION QUESTION 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media institution is an organisation and company that produces and/or distibutes media productions, this varies from anything such as movies and tv programmes, to the radio and even the internet
With my media product being a smaller thriller, the type of distribution company I would need would need to be of a smaller and lower scale. The reason for this is because the company would have a lower budget if my thriller was made into a full film.  In some cases, low budgetting distribution companies can produce high grossing films, with being produced for less than £500k and then grossing over one million worldwide, this shows that having a low budget distribution company does not effect the quality of the film, and is just needed as my thriller is not a high end block buster. Between January 2008 and August 2014, there were 1,419 films made in the UK budgeted under £1 million, with only 7 of them grossing over £1 millions in cinemas worldwide. As well as this, the company should be based in the UK, preferably London as London is the home to over 50% of the UK's film companies.

A good distribution company that would be ideal for my thriller is netflix, the online streaming site has expanded significantly in the last 5 years and has become increasingly popular, people all over the world are able to access the site at a small monthly rate. Netflix has an income of over £200 million pound in the UK alone and global profits of £260+ million, this makes the company a great success and a liable distribution company

Arrow Films is also another distribution company that is suitable for my thriller as it is a low budget company that seems to distribute many thrillers. Arrow's global reputation as one of the finest labels in the world has happened through its consistent high quality products. This would boost my thrillers views and essentially produce a high number of people seeing the film.

EVALUATION QUESTION 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product represents the following; Class, Race, Age, Gender, and Sexuality.

CLASS;

The audience my product would be targeted at would be middle class.
I have represented class within my production through my protagonist, as it is suggested and shown throughout the footage that she has a well paid job as a police women, she clearly has the knowledge to be able to solve the crime she has been given, and adds enigma to the piece as it is unknown what she is investigating. The costumes do not add to the representation of class as the protagonist is just wearing comfy, black clothes in her house, this questions the class of the character as she is not dressed as you would stereo-typically see a middle class women.

RACE;

The race I am representing within my thriller is white. Both my protagonist and antagonist are white, one a victim of a unknown crime, and the other is a white police women. My production does not contain any black characters, this does not discriminate against black people, I just did not include a black person in my thriller.

AGE;

My production would appeal and is targeted at people aged 18-28. The characters in my media product are just younger than this, however one of them plays a character who has the job and abilities of a 25 year old as established through multiple shots. My production supports the stereotype that young people are stronger than old people, as my protagonist is capable and knowledgeable to solve a crime everyone is talking about.

GENDER;

 My production represented women as strong, capable people who can do a good job at solving crimes just as a man is stereotyped to do. There is no male character throughout my media production, however there is the police radio recordings that are in a male voice, the stereotype that men are the center role of a thriller film is not prominent here and therefore goes against the stereotype completely.

 ______________________________________________________________

My thriller represents two social groups, one being teenage victims, and the other being middle class workers (in this case a police women). Although my media project does not portray any stereotypical conventions of teenagers, such as typical locations they tend to hang around like the park or near garages, it is obvious the victim is within the teen region as she looks young, and many suggestions are made through minimal images within the newspapers. Middle class workers are represented throughout the piece from within the house of the police officer, again, there is nothing overly accentuated to show that this character is middle class, such as over priced gadgets etc, however the house in which they are situated is presentable and modern.
